چکیده

The goal of this paper is to generalize the well-balanced approach for non-equilibrium flow studied by Wang et al. (2009) [29] to a class of low dissipative high-order shock-capturing filter schemes and to explore more advantages of well-balanced schemes in reacting flows. More general 1D and 2D reacting flow models and new examples of shock turbulence interactions are provided to demonstrate the advantage of well-balanced schemes. The class of filter schemes developed by Yee et al. (1999) [33], Sjögreen and Yee (2004) [27] and Yee and Sjögreen (2007) [38] consist of two steps, a full time step of spatially highorder non-dissipative base scheme and an adaptive non-linear filter containing shock-capturing dissipation. A good property of the filter scheme is that the base scheme and the filter are stand-alone modules in designing. Therefore, the idea of designing a well-balanced filter scheme is straightforward, i.e. choosing a well-balanced base scheme with a well-balanced filter (both with high-order accuracy). A typical class of these schemes shown in this paper is the high-order central difference schemes/predictor–corrector (PC) schemes with a high-order well-balanced WENO filter. The new filter scheme with the well-balanced property will gather the features of both filter methods and well-balanced properties: it can preserve certain steady-state solutions exactly; it is able to capture small perturbations, e.g. turbulence fluctuations; and it adaptively controls numerical dissipation. Thus it shows high accuracy, efficiency and stability in shock/turbulence interactions. Numerical examples containing 1D and 2D smooth problems, 1D stationary contact discontinuity problem and 1D turbulence/shock interactions are included to verify the improved accuracy, in addition to the well-balanced behavior. 2010 Elsevier Inc. Hydrodynamic Instabilities in Well-Balanced Finite Volume Schemes for Frictional Shallow Water Equations. The Kinematic Wave Case

We report the developments of hydrodynamic instabilities in several wellbalanced finite volume schemes that are observed during the computation of the temporal evolution of an out-balance flow which is essentially a kinematic wave. The numerical simulations are based on the one-dimensional shallow-water equations for a uniformly sloping bed with hydraulic resistance. Subsequently, we highlight ...

High-order well-balanced schemes and applications to non-equilibrium flow

The appearance of the source terms in modeling non-equilibrium flow problems containing finite-rate chemistry or combustion poses additional numerical difficulties beyond that for solving non-reacting flows. A well-balanced scheme, which can preserve certain non-trivial steady state solutions exactly, may help minimize some of these difficulties. In this paper, a simple one-dimensional non-equi...

Development of low dissipative high order filter schemes for multiscale Navier-Stokes/MHD systems

Recent progress in the development of a class of low dissipative high order (fourth-order or higher) filter schemes for multiscale Navier–Stokes, and ideal and non-ideal magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) systems is described. The four main features of this class of schemes are: (a) multiresolution wavelet decomposition of the computed flow data as sensors for adaptive numerical dissipative control, (b...

Variable high-order multiblock overlapping grid methods for mixed steady and unsteady multiscale viscous flows, part II: hypersonic nonequilibrium flows

The variable high-order multiblock overlapping (overset) grids method of Sjögreen & Yee (CiCP, Vol.5, 2008) for a perfect gas has been extended to nonequilibrium flows. This work makes use of the recently developed high-order well-balanced shock-capturing schemes and their filter counterparts (Wang et al., J. Comput. Phys., 2009, 2010) that exactly preserve certain non-trivial steady state solu...

Noelle , Xing , Shu . Well - balanced schemes for moving water . 1 High Order Well - balanced Finite Volume WENO Schemes for Shallow Water Equation with Moving Water

A characteristic feature of hyperbolic systems of balance laws is the existence of non-trivial equilibrium solutions, where the effects of convective fluxes and source terms cancel each other. Recently a number of so-called well-balanced schemes were developed which satisfy a discrete analogue of this balance and are therefore able to maintain an equilibrium state. In most cases, applications t...
